Master Gardeners Made Our Day

Beautification Award for June
from the Robertson County
Master Gardeners

Japanese Iris

Japanese Iris

Rose Champions

new angel from
Peggy & Bob Boyer

We've had a wonderful week and it has just started!  The weather is great and we were awarded the Beautification Award for the month of June from the Robertson County Master Gardeners.  Our neighbors are master gardeners and they came and took pictures a couple of weeks ago tonominate us for the award for this month.  They came yesterday afternoon and put the sign in the garden and took pictures for our local paper.  We are so excited!

Our peonies have finished blooming and the Japanese Iris have started along with the Rose Champions.  The Rose Champions have taken over under the pine tree and look fantastic, apparently that is the best spot in the garden for them as they have pretty much died out everywhere else.  Thank goodness they found their spot and their blooms look spectacular around the tree.  Their picture does not do them justice at all.

Last but not least is our newest angel that was given to us by Peggy & Bob Boyer of Shelbyville when they visited a couple of weeks ago.  Thanks a lot guys, we love her.

New Wash Tub Garden

While I was on vacation the past week I worked in the garden weeding, planting and playing.  One thing I did manage to get done was my wash tub garden I had been planning for ages.  The best thing of all was that I already had all the old tubs and didn't need to buy any!  Half of the tubs are in shade and the other half in sun - I couldn't have planned it better myself.

More Peonies

Itoh Yumi (Beauty) Yellow Doodle Dandy Peony

Itoh Bartzella Peony

The Yellow Doodle Dandy is the one in front blooming it's heart out and Bartzella is in the back with a few blooms.  Bartzella is a much smaller plant than the Yellow Doodle Dandy is so in a few years it should have just as many blooms.  All the peonies are blooming much better this year than the last few but our winter was a little colder which seems to make a big difference.

Puddles

were made for jumping in

We had another 1 3/4" of rain this past weekend which made Bella one very happy little girl.  She tried jumping in the puddles with her rain boots on during the morning but that just wasn't good enough.  When I got home from work we went out in the garden again and she had a blast!

Camellias & Tree Peonies Are Blooming

The camellias and tree peonies are in full bloom and gorgeous.  It is a good thing Mom had staked the tree peonies last week as we have 4 1/2 inches of rain from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning.  Everything is a soggy mess right now.
