Fall Color

Yesterday afternoon I walked around the garden and took some pictures of our fall colors. We have had a fantastic fall this year! The month of October was wonderful, temps in the 60s and 70s for the most part with rain here and there.

birdfeeders and water moved to the porch

We have had rain since this morning and hopefully it will stay all day. Sure will make pulling weeds a lot easier this weekend. Progress is being slowly made in the clean up but there is still a lot to do. We are trying to move peonies, iris and daylilies that have out grown their spots into the newly cleaned areas. I don't imagine we will have very many more weekends to get this done but then again there is always next year right around the corner.

Looking For Sunshine

Winter Color
Where O Where is Spring

After a gorgeous weekend in the 50s Monday rolls around and the rains come again. More rain on Tuesday and through the night with snow showers for Wednesday morning and a light dusting on the ground but not the roads thank goodness.

more green in the corner garden

red berries the birds love

the wild turkeys tried to get on
so funny - they are too big and it is too little

sure makes the red berries show up

green moss - so pretty

snow showers lingering Wednesday morning

dusting of snow

We did manage a little sunshine Wednesday afternoon before the clouds rolled back in and it is supposed to start snowing sometime this afternoon/early evening and depending on what station you watch we could get a dusting to 3 inches of the white stuff. Where is spring? It needs to hurry up!

White Wednesday

We Really Got Snow

After listening to the winter storm watches and warnings all week for this past weekend the snow finally started around 11:00 on Friday morning as flurries and continued through the afternoon. About 4:00 it started getting very heavy and covering the roads and appeared to be accumulating faster and faster - at least to us, who are not used to much if any snow during our winters. By the time it finished on Saturday morning we had about 5" on the ground and no ice.

We had such a cold and beautiful weekend with all the snow and since none of us had to get out and go to work on Saturday it was enjoyable. Jennifer did have to work Sunday and had trouble getting out of her drive so Mom and I shoved it during the afternoon so the sun could melt it and she could get out on Monday with no problems.

We had no mail delivery on Saturday but Mom had to check just to make sure later in the day. She put on Alan's big ole boots and shuffled her way to the mailbox and back. It was a sight to behold.

Trying To Eat

clouds rolling on through yesterday afternoon

got home and Wild Cat was waiting to be fed
he has to hurry and eat because of the birds

they try their best to run him off so they can eat

and are successful a good part of the time

the cardinals are the last to eat if there is any left
they are as easily run off as Wild Cat

Newest Acquisitions in the Garden

iron hanger from Hobby Lobby clearance isle for the woodpecker food bars -- thought it might save some holes in the trees except that they ate both of these in a day

birdcage I picked up at TJ Maxx on clearance -- perfect for candles on the patio

iron fence piece we found at an antique store on the way home from Arkansas a couple of weeks ago, perfect backdrop for our rabbit

Birdfeeders, Butterfly Weeds and Cannas

Here are a few of the birdfeeders we have around the garden.

Hanging in the magnolia bush -- had to raise it since the cats were sitting in the swing waiting for the birds to come -- not that they are fast enough by any means to catch a bird feasting.

our yellow cannas are starting to bloom

newest oriole feeder -- bugs seem to like it better than the birds

butterfly weed is now in full bloom all over the garden
