Roses to Brighten the Day!

Roses from our garden in years past to brighten this cold, cold winter day.  I will be so glad when spring gets here!

End of August

Those dog days of August have sure been good to us this year.  The temps have been in the 80s and low 90s for most of the month and rain has been scattered through out.  The flower garden is still looking good and the tomato garden is winding down.  We are mulching and clearing out weeds as fast as we can getting ready for fall and winter.

Our project for this weekend is to get Bella's little house painted inside and trim painted outside.  Replace roof shingles and fix the porch all without our little helper.  Wish us luck!

Spring Blooms

After a beautiful Saturday and cold Sunday spring temps are back in Middle TN for the first part of this week. I walked around the garden Sunday afternoon trying to make mental notes of all that needs to be done and it is enough to make one think of the little men in white coats chasing me through the garden for their mental home. The helleborus are continuing to bloom and lots more are sprouting up for their time in the sun.

We did manage to get a couple of small rain showers on Tuesday, really more of a drink than a shower but better than nothing. Then on Wednesday afternoon storms rolled through and we got a good rain. More rain is in our forecast at small percentages but hopefully we will manage to get some which I need since Mom has gone visiting for the next several days.

Dog Days of Summer

And it is only June 9

After a very nice, rainy and cool April and May our temps have been 90+ for the last 12 days and the 7 day forecast is more of the same. We have had no rain and lots of thunder last night with again no rain. The forecast has spotty showers but so far they have all missed our flower garden and don't look promising for the next 7 days. It is now time to pull out the garden hoses and sprinklers and let them get to work.

You could hear the flowers weeping with joy as the water began to fall and I'm sure we will be weeping when we receive our water bill next month. I see much more of this in our future to keep the garden alive.

We are definitely water logged but the garden is blooming better than ever and the hummingbirds are back. The weeds are growing faster than ever and I don't see how we will ever catch up. We have plenty to do in our spare time whenever that might be.

We are sure having a dry fall this year, very hot and dusty when mowing. Hopefully we will get some much needed rain in the next few weeks.
