Rosy Friday

I thought I would share some of Mom's roses that are blooming for this Friday.

Our climbing Peace rose is surely a miracle. It is close to the house and now too close to the gas meter to try to dig up and move. It gets entirely too much shade but keeps on trying. This year we have 3 buds and this is the first to open. It is gorgeous.

Iris

I hope you have enjoyed viewing some of our iris in our flower garden and yard. It seems all our flowers enjoyed the cold cold winter months more than we did and are showing their appreciation.

Rain, Rain & More Rain

This past weekend was one for the record books. Nashville received 13 1/2" of rain for Saturday and Sunday, we received around 10"-12" in our county. Thank goodness we live up the ridge from the Nashville area. We had lots of water pooled around the gardens and yard but nothing that caused a major problem. Finally late yesterday afternoon the rain quit for a while and the sun came out, it was a very welcome sight.

It is going to be a busy week, thank goodness the weather is supposed to be sunny and in the 70s and 80s until Friday. We surely need the sunshine to clean up and replant.

Late Sunday afternoon our local news channels were able to get the helicopters up and over Nashville and the surrounding area. It was one thing to see pictures during the weekend of all the flooding but quite another to see the video from the helicopters showing how massive the flooding really was. Our hearts go out to all the families and businesses that are having to clean up and rebuild after this weekend and unfortunately most of them do not have flood insurance.

Wedding

Yesterday was a perfect day in Middle Tennessee for a wedding, sunny and in the mid 70s. We couldn't have had a more beautiful day for Jennifer.

Mom and I have been mowing Jennifer's yard this spring and Clemente, bless his heart, said he will take over next week. We bought them a new mower, gave them money and I promised to stitch her The Wedding by Marilyn Leavitt Imblum, Told In A Garden Designs, and have it done by her 5 year anniversary.

Rhododendrons

Our beautiful rhododendrons - we are down from 3 to 1. They used to cover one entire side of the front porch all the way to the roof but 2 have died in the last few years. It is still a beautiful bush but nothing compared to what we used to have.

New Play Toy

One of our newest play toys is now up and running. We were at Lowe's a few weeks ago and seen this composter and fell in love so we got 2. Not even a week later they ran an ad and they were $10 cheaper than we paid for ours so Mom went back to Lowe's with our receipt to get a $20 refund. The clerk didn't think he could do that so Mom suggested he call his manager, otherwise she was bringing them both back. The manager came and said no problem, no need to bring them back and gave her our refund. Yippee. Since Alan couldn't play outside Saturday with his toys during the storms he put together 1 of our composters.
